Have you ever watched a super strong climber and wondered how do they stick to the rock like that. They seem to have a sticky substance on their hands and feet that allows them to be hooked to whatever they are climbing.
In another post I asked “do these guys have an agreement with gravity?”
I think I got an answer to my question the other day.
Two of my friends were working a problem, well one was, the other was telling him the proper way to do it. It went like that for sometime. Then I started working the problem. It was hard, very hard. Then the friend that was telling us how to do it said “think light”. What, think light, I thought. Will this help?
Ok, so thinking won’t get you through the problem, which by the way is V5/6. Will it? I started thinking about this think light proposal. Will this really help or was he just trying to make us feel better?
I have heard that by envisioning your self doing something it can help you to actually do it. Like walking on hot coals or something. Maybe this is the key to working with gravity. By thinking light or that your body is light. You could actually trick gravity, something like mind over matter.
This theory I have that thinking light could work is crazy, yes. But, think about this if you are thinking light and you could be feeling light, maybe you are light. Your powerful mind has tricked gravity, if only a little, into also thinking that you are light. Therefore enabling you to climb harder problems or routes.
Now, for one to be able to do this fancy trick, I think it would take time and practice. If your a 5.10 climber your not going to be able to climb 5.14 right after you read this. You should go climbing right after reading this and start working on this experiment (it’s a good excuse to go). Do remember, we will all have to earn our way to super human strength, but with this little trick up our sleeve, it may come a little faster.
